Hi Everyone! Let me introduce myself. I'm Meghan, your book lady. :O) I have three littles, a 5-year-old boy, 3-year-old girl, and a 10-month-old little boy! (Oh yeah, and that husband over there, too!) I'm so excited to be able to be apart of Usborne and filling my home with amazing books for my kiddos. These are the most unique books I have ever seen and I'm so thrilled to share them with you! My kids absolutely love them! I think reading to our children is so extremely important and these books make it so much fun!

So, welcome to my Usborne Party!

How much power lies in a book? Book ownership increases literacy rates. Increased literacy will improve overall health, increase life expectancy, and result in career success & higher lifetime income (Don't believe me?! Read Jim Trelease's The Read-Aloud Handbook)! Who wouldn't want that for their child?? 

What percentage of U.S. fourth graders do YOU think are currently reading BELOW the proficiency level for their grade? It's 67%! That just CAN'T Be!

 How do we combat that!??!  America is facing a LITERACY CRISIS with just about two-thirds of students falling behind.

As parents, teachers, grandparents, aunts, uncles, friends, etc., of COURSE we want to foster the desire and create more motivation for kids to READ. Watch THIS VIDEO to learn a few easy things you can do in your own home to help encourage a lifelong love of reading. While you're watching think of what you're doing now, and what you can further do to create this reading environment and contagion in your home!





Here is another quick and easy idea to foster a fulfilling reading environment in our homes!  It really can be this simple!  I have first hand experience with getting books and becoming interested in MY son's interests so that he and I can enjoy time together reading and create those positive associations with reading.  It has included various things at different stages of his life, and he's only 5!  From fireman to trains, from dinosaurs to the human body, we are discovering a lot through books.

Reading is SO important for our children's future — and luckily, these books make it FUN!  Here are a couple quick early literacy tips.  1) Here's a handy way to remember when to advance your kids' books! This came from literacy expert Jim Trelease, who would like to remind us that kids' brains are growing, too! When you switch out a clothing size, remember to take a look at their bookcase as well.  

And speaking of bookcases … have you ever heard of a gutter book case? Made with cheap gutters from the hardware store, this style has the advantage of putting your kids’ favorite books facing out. A book’s cover is so much more enticing to kids than its spine! Give it a try and you might find it easier than ever to raise a reader. What “tricks” have you tried at home to encourage reading?
